Other Than Media was set up in 2010 as a platform for my work as a digital artist, filmmaker and journalist. The main intention of my work is to tell those stories and share the opinions most often regarded as marginal, or other, in the mainstream.

As of August 2011, I am a PhD candidate in cultural anthropology at American University in Washington DC. I continue to work in the roles listed below but on a reduced scale. Most non-writing projects take place during the summer.

Writing and Designing

I write for a range of publications. My main areas of focus are arts and culture, particularly film. I also cover news, politics, activism and society. See Writing for examples.

Consultancy and Production for Groups and Organisations

I work with a group of collaborators with similar values and a wide range of media skills. We aim to work with social justice groups that might otherwise find film projects beyond their budgets or means. We provide production services and consultation, working closely with our service users to find the best solutions for their needs, contributing at all stages of production from research and grant application through production, post-production and distribution.

Rates are not published because every commission is assessed on its own needs, merits and resources. Get in touch weather you have an idea for a project that you would like to discuss; a project that you want to develop or a near-completion project in need of filming or editing.

Creative Projects and Collaboration

I work with artists and theatre groups to produce digital elements for existing work as well as developing creative pieces to be suitable for film. This is a creative and collaborative process offering freedom of expression in a very different manner than information-led pieces. I work in a range of formats and use Avid for most projects, though I am also proficient with Adobe Premiere and Final Cut.

Teaching and Workshops

My background is in theatre arts with an emphasis of participatory and forum theatre. I have facilitated theatre workshops in Kenya, Brazil and the UK, including a semester-long course at The University of Nottingham. I have also led workshops on journalism and film through MULE Media, which aims to provide skills training to the community free of charge.
